Jaguar has unveiled the new Type 01, a luxury four-door electric GT that marks the beginning of a new era for the British marque. Revealed in New York, the Type 01 combines a dramatic design with a dedicated electric architecture, tri-motor powertrain and a claimed range of up to 400 miles on the EPA cycle. It is also the most powerful and technically advanced Jaguar road car yet, with up to 1,016hp and 1,365Nm of torque.
The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar built on the company's dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Jaguar says more than 360 patent applications have been made around the car, while production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at JLR's Solihull facility in the UK. Orders are expected to open in early 2027.
Design
Exterior
The Jaguar Type 01 has been designed around dramatic proportions, with a low roofline, short front overhang, long bonnet and extended rear overhang. The car also gets large 23-inch wheels, giving it a strong road presence while maintaining the proportions Jaguar wanted for its new luxury GT. The clean surfacing and sleek silhouette are intended to give the Type 01 a distinctive appearance without compromising its aerodynamic performance.
Jaguar says the Type 01 is its most aerodynamic model yet, with a drag coefficient of 0.23. Active vanes, a three-stage deployable spoiler and extensive airflow optimisation have been used to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The exterior can be specified with gloss colours or satin finishes, while the Fender Ingot features Jaguar's famous leaper. The car is built around the dedicated JEA architecture, which was developed specifically to allow Jaguar to achieve the Type 01's proportions and performance targets.
Interior
Inside, the Type 01 takes a different approach to the conventional four-door GT. A central spine runs through the length of the cabin, creating four individual spaces for the occupants. Longitudinal brass-effect anodised aluminium finishers run alongside the central structure, highlighting the length and scale of the interior while adding a distinctive design element.
The driver gets a 24-inch single-glass OLED Interactive Driver Display, designed to provide high clarity and direct access to the car's new Jaguar infotainment system. A separate seven-inch smartphone-style touchscreen sits between the front occupants and provides access to key functions. The cabin also features a Jaguar Immersive Sound System, including Sensory Audio seats and a full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar.
Battery and Performance
The Jaguar Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical architecture paired with a 118kWh usable battery. Jaguar expects the car to deliver up to 400 miles of EPA range, while the claimed sustained highway-speed range is up to 320 miles when cruising at a constant 120km/h. Jaguar also quotes up to 450 miles or 720km of WLTP range, with the figures subject to final certification.
The battery can add up to 200 miles or 321km of range in as little as 13 minutes when using a 350kW rapid DC charger. Jaguar says the Type 01 can complete up to 99.7 per cent of journeys without interruption based on its analysis of customer journey data.
Power comes from a tri-motor setup with Intelligent Torque Vectoring. The system produces up to 1,016hp and 1,365Nm of torque, making the Type 01 the most powerful Jaguar road car ever created. The electric GT can accelerate from 0-62mph or 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds, while 62-112mph or 100-180km/h takes 4.0 seconds.
Jaguar has also focused on giving the Type 01 a distinct driving character rather than concentrating solely on straight-line performance. The car has a claimed 50:50 weight distribution and offers two dynamic characters, with the company targeting a combination of refined comfort and strong performance. Jaguar TCS Racing's Formula E expertise was also used to help develop the car's driving character.
Features
The Type 01's technology package is built around its dedicated JEA platform and Jaguar's new approach to luxury. The 24-inch OLED display forms the centrepiece of the driver's interface, while the additional seven-inch touchscreen places commonly used controls within easy reach.
The cabin's audio system is another major highlight. The Jaguar Immersive Sound System incorporates Sensory Audio seats and the full-width Panoramic Soundbar, designed to create an immersive sound experience throughout the cabin.
On the engineering side, the Type 01 features active aerodynamic elements including active vanes and a three-stage deployable spoiler. Intelligent Torque Vectoring works with the tri-motor powertrain to distribute power where it is needed, while the bespoke JEA architecture has been developed specifically around the car's electric powertrain, proportions and occupant experience.
Jaguar also highlights the extensive engineering behind the model, with more than 360 patent applications associated with the Type 01. The car is designed, engineered and manufactured in Britain, with its Electric Drive Units and battery packs being produced in Wolverhampton and pressed body panels manufactured at Halewood in Merseyside.
Pricing
The Jaguar Type 01 will be positioned as a high-end luxury electric GT, with prices starting from £130,000 in the UK. Customers are expected to be able to place orders in early 2027, with first client deliveries anticipated in the second half of 2027. Production will begin at JLR's Solihull operations in Britain.
With the Type 01, Jaguar is moving into an entirely new chapter built around all-electric propulsion. Its combination of a bespoke electric architecture, dramatic four-door GT design, up to 1,016hp, 1,365Nm and a claimed 400-mile EPA range makes it the foundation of Jaguar's new generation of cars
