Mahindra has expanded the Thar ROXX lineup with the new STAR EDN, an appearance-focused variant that adds a layer of polish to the familiar rugged package. Introductory prices start at Rs 16.85 lakh ex-showroom.
The idea here is simple. Keep the mechanics unchanged and dial up the visual and cabin appeal for buyers who want their off-roader with a sharper suit.
What’s different
The STAR EDN stands out with a piano-black grille and matching piano-black alloy wheels. Combined with the Thar ROXX’s upright proportions, it gives the SUV a darker and more premium stance.
Inside, the cabin moves to an all-black theme with leatherette seats and suede accents. It is a noticeable shift in mood compared to the regular versions and should appeal to those who prefer a more restrained look.
A new hero colour, Citrine Yellow, joins the palette, alongside Tango Red, Everest White and Stealth Black.
Engines and drivetrain
There are no changes under the bonnet, and that is not a bad thing. The STAR EDN continues with Mahindra’s proven engines.
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol produces around 174bhp and 380Nm, while the 2.2-litre diesel delivers about 173bhp and a stronger 400Nm of torque. Both engines are offered with manual and automatic gearboxes, and all variants use a Rear Wheel Drive layout.
Features and tech
The STAR EDN comes well-equipped. Highlights include ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, powered folding mirrors, cruise control, and dual 10.25-inch digital screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster.
Connectivity duties are handled by the Adrenox system with Alexa integration, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. A surround view camera and keyless entry with walk-away locking also make the list.
Safety
Mahindra says the Thar ROXX STAR EDN is engineered to meet a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera, electronic stability control, eCall and SOS functions.
