Mercedes-Benz has updated the EQS, and the headline is simple. Range. Lots of it. The EQS 450+ now claims up to 925km on a full charge, making it one of the longest-range electric cars on sale.
This update, Mercedes says, has overhauled a quarter of the car to improve efficiency, charging, and overall usability. The battery has grown slightly, now at 122kWh, and is paired with improved motor efficiency and better energy recuperation. The result is a meaningful jump in range over the outgoing model. It also moves to an 800V architecture, allowing fast charging at up to 350kW. In ideal conditions, that can add nearly 320km of range in about 10 minutes.
There is also a new two-speed gearbox on the rear axle, designed to improve efficiency at higher speeds. It is an unusual addition in an EV, but one that shows where the focus lies. The tech list has grown as well. There is an optional steer-by-wire, paired with a yoke-style steering wheel. Mercedes says it improves visibility and reduces effort, though it will likely divide opinion.
The suspension has also been updated. The Airmatic system now uses cloud-based data shared between cars to prepare for upcoming road conditions. It is essentially predictive damping, using real-world inputs rather than just sensors on the car.
Driver assistance systems have been expanded, including enhanced lane assist, parking assist and evasive steering support. There is also a new AI-based virtual assistant integrated into the infotainment system.
Design changes are subtle. The EQS still looks like a smooth, aerodynamic shape, but now gets revised lighting elements, new bumpers and a slightly updated front treatment. The drag coefficient remains extremely low at 0.20, which plays a big role in achieving that range.
Inside, it continues with the large Hyperscreen setup, rear entertainment displays and a focus on comfort. There is no shortage of features here, just incremental improvements.
