Mercedes-Benz has launched the updated version of its GLE SUV, featuring more than 3000+ revised parts across its interiors and exteriors, along with changes to its drivetrain.
Exteriors
On the outside, the GLE retains its overall design, but there are some changes. There is a revised grille with chrome inserts, along with different bumpers with black air intake surrounds. The headlamps and the taillamps are redesigned, with three-pointed star elements acting as the daytime running lights, with illuminated Mercedes logos in the front and back. There are new 20-inch alloy wheel designs, and you can also get the GLE with 22-inch rims in the AMG trim.
Interiors
On the inside, the headline feature is the Mercedes Superscreen system with three massive 12.3-inch displays: one for the digital driver's display, one for the infotainment screen, and one for the passenger. The infotainment system is equipped with the latest AI-integrated MB.OS software that gets over-the-air upgrades.
The interior now comes in Beech Brown, Macchiato Beige, and Bahia Brown colours, and the AMG versions are offered in either Tartufo Brown, Carmine Red, or Yacht Blue interior trims.
Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Burmester 3D sound system, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats for the front, boss mode for the front passenger seat, etc.
Drivetrain
The updated GLE gets revised engines across the range. The top-of-the-line GLE 580 4MATIC gets a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, which now gets a flat-plane crank instead of a cross-plane crank. It produces 530bhp and 750Nm of torque. The GLE 450 4MATIC gets a 3-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with 375bhp and 560Nm of torque. There is also an AMG GLE 53 trim that is offered in both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, with a 3-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine producing 443bhp and 600Nm in the mild-hybrid form and 577bhp and 750Nm in the plug-in hybrid form. There are two diesel engine options also available.
The GLE, like its bigger sibling, the GLS, gets a “cloud-based” air suspension system, which scans the road at 1000 samples per second and stores that data in the cloud for future use by adjusting the damping before hitting the bumps.
Pricing and rivals
The pricing of the updated GLE range has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be slightly more expensive than the outgoing model. The main competitors are the BMW X5, Audi Q5, and the Volvo XC60.
