Mercedes-Benz India has launched the new Mercedes-Maybach S 580e in India, marking the first-ever plug-in hybrid Mercedes-Maybach offered in the country. Limited to just 30 units at launch, the S 580e combines the luxury and craftsmanship associated with the Maybach brand with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The new limousine produces a combined 585hp and 750Nm, while offering a WLTP-certified electric range of up to 98km. It is priced at ₹3.35 crore (ex-showroom).
Design
Exterior
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e retains the distinctive visual identity of the Maybach S-Class while adding several details that highlight its exclusive positioning. One of the key design elements is the illuminated Maybach radiator grille, which gives the front end a more distinctive appearance. The car also features a Maybach logo projection that illuminates the ground with the Maybach pattern when the vehicle is approached. Illuminated front and rear door sills with Maybach lettering further add to the sense of occasion.
The exterior can also be specified with MANUFAKTUR Exclusive Two-Tone finishes, giving customers the option to personalise the limousine with a more bespoke appearance.
The S 580e is equipped with DIGITAL LIGHT and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus. The lighting system continuously adapts the beam distribution according to driving conditions and surrounding traffic, while being able to precisely mask other road users without reducing illumination of the rest of the road.
The car also gets flush-fitting door handles with KEYLESS-GO and electrically operated rear comfort doors. The latter allow the rear doors to be opened and closed electrically, adding another layer of convenience for rear passengers.
Interior
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e is offered in India exclusively with a four-seat First-Class rear configuration. The cabin features two individual Executive rear seats separated by a full-length Business Centre Console. Wireless charging and temperature-controlled cup holders are also part of the rear-seat experience.
The Rear Comfort Package Plus further enhances the rear compartment with adaptive ambient lighting, climatised seats, rear wireless charging and rear MBUX controls. The limousine also gets an Energizing Package with calf massage.
The interior showcases Mercedes-Maybach's MANUFAKTUR craftsmanship, with Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather finished in a crystal white and silver-grey pearl combination. The cabin also features MANUFAKTUR piano lacquer trim, a handcrafted crystal white Nappa leather roof liner and MANUFAKTUR seat backrests.
Other unique interior touches include a wood-and-leather multifunction steering wheel, designer belt buckles for the front and rear occupants, deep-pile floor mats and a high-gloss white vehicle key with rose-gold detailing.
For rear-seat entertainment, the S 580e gets the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System with two 13.1-inch displays. The screens can be used for entertainment, online access and vehicle controls, while wireless headphones are also provided.
At the front, the MBUX Superscreen integrates two displays beneath a single glass surface, giving the front passenger a dedicated display and control area. The car also gets a 3D driver's display and an MBUX augmented-reality Head-up Display.
Engine and Performance
Powering the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain paired with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. The combustion engine produces 443hp and 560Nm, while the electric motor develops 160hp and 480Nm. The combined system output stands at 585hp and 750Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
The Maybach S 580e can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. In electric mode, the car can reach a top speed of 140kmph.
The plug-in hybrid system uses a 22kWh usable battery and offers a WLTP-certified electric range of up to 98km. Mercedes-Benz says this can translate to around 100km of real-world driving range with advanced recuperation. The car gets dedicated Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold drive modes, along with adjustable energy recuperation and one-pedal driving.
For charging, the S 580e supports up to 11kW AC and up to 60kW DC charging. Mercedes-Benz India is also providing a complimentary home charging solution with every Mercedes-Maybach S 580e. The model additionally gets access to compatible public charging infrastructure through MB.CHARGE.
The sedan uses cloud-based AIRMATIC air suspension as standard. The system can access real-time navigation data to predict changes in road conditions and adapt damping accordingly. Rear-axle steering is also standard and can be extended up to 10 degrees, helping reduce the turning circle and improve stability at higher speeds.
Features and Safety
The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e comes equipped with a Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound System featuring 31 speakers, eight exciters and 1,610 watts of system output. The system also supports Dolby Atmos and sound personalisation, while wireless headphones are provided for rear-seat entertainment.
The cabin also gets Mercedes-Benz's MB.OS operating system, MBUX Superscreen, a front-passenger display with privacy function, 3D driver display and augmented-reality Head-up Display and navigation.
In terms of driver assistance, MB.DRIVE ASSIST is offered alongside MB.DRIVE Standard. Distance Assist DISTRONIC maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead, while Steering Assist helps with lane guidance.
Safety equipment includes PRE-SAFE with 15 airbags. The restraint system includes a centre airbag, rear side airbags, a rear tubular front protection airbag and belt bags. The car also gets PRE-SAFE Impulse and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side, along with GUARD 360° Vehicle Protection Plus.
The S 580e also gets DIGITAL LIGHT and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus as standard. Other assistance and parking technologies listed by Mercedes-Benz include Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping function, Brake Assist, Steering Assist, Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Evasive Steering function, Parking Assist, PARKTRONIC, a reversing camera and a 360-degree camera.
