Tata Harrier.ev Secures Full Marks in Adult Safety: A Benchmark for Indian EVs

In a notable development for electric vehicle safety in India, the Tata Harrier.ev has achieved a full score of 32 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection in crash tests conducted under AIS-197 standards. This result positions the Harrier.ev as one of the safest electric SUVs currently on sale in the country.

Full Marks for Adult Safety

According to the official fact sheet released for the May 2025 evaluation, the Harrier.ev scored the maximum possible marks in both the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. These tests are considered the core assessments for evaluating adult protection in the event of a collision.

The tested variants were the Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 AWD, with the crash test vehicle weighing 2574 kg. In addition to the structural performance, all standard safety systems were functional and met the prescribed criteria during the evaluation.

Strong Child Occupant Protection Too

The Harrier.ev also fared well in child safety, scoring 45 out of 49 points in total. It achieved 24/24 in dynamic tests using Joie i-Spin Safe i-Size child seats and met installation and compatibility requirements in most standard positions.

The SUV is equipped with ISOFIX anchor points, i-Size compatibility, and an airbag cut-off switch, ensuring a high level of child occupant protection across different age groups.

Across all tested variants, the Harrier.ev comes equipped with critical safety technologies including:

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

Side Curtain Airbags

Seat Belt Reminders (SBR) for all seating positions

Pedestrian Protection System

These features are offered as standard fitment on all variants evaluated for safety. The test results also confirm good performance in side pole impact tests, which are particularly challenging for SUVs due to their body structure and ride height.

A Step Forward for EV Safety in India

The Harrier.ev’s crash test performance reflects Tata Motors' increasing focus on structural integrity and occupant protection in the EV space. With these results, it not only matches but, in certain aspects, exceeds expectations from conventionally powered SUVs in the same segment.

As the Indian automotive market shifts towards electrification, such high safety benchmarks are expected to become more relevant for buyers. The Harrier.ev’s test scores serve as a reminder that safety need not be compromised in the transition to electric mobility.
