On June 27, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 and the even more shouty GT 63 Pro return to India after a five-year sabbatical. And they’re not coming quietly.
Two V8s. One Purpose.
Both versions are powered by the familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. The standard GT 63 makes 585bhp and 800Nm. The GT 63 Pro bumps that to 612bhp and 850Nm. All of it goes through a 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox to all four wheels via 4Matic+.
Speed Stats You’ll Never Need
The GT 63 hits 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds and tops out at 315 kmph. The Pro manages the same 0–100 sprint but does 0200 kmph in 10.9 seconds, half a second quicker, and nudges 317 kmph. Your local expressway remains unimpressed.
What’s New? Everything, Mostly.
Revealed globally in August 2023, this second-gen GT 63 is 182mm longer, 45mm wider, and 66mm taller than its predecessor. The wheelbase has grown by 70mm. It’s now a 2+2, so you can pretend it’s practical.
Interior Familiarity
Step inside, and it’s mostly SL 55 with a new hat. You get AMG seats with integrated headrests, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and an 11.9-inch portrait infotainment screen. Boot space is up too, so now there’s room for luggage and regrets.
The Pro Treatment
The GT 63 Pro isn’t just louder. It’s faster, sharper, and sticks harder. Mercedes says it generates more rear downforce and less front lift, has larger brakes, lighter wheels, and stickier tyres. Useful for the track. Or the social media post about the track.
The Price of Drama
Expect the GT 63 to start north of ₹ three crore, with the Pro sitting a fair bit higher. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS at ₹2.84 crore will be watched closely, probably in silence.
Verdict (Sort of)
Two angry AMGS, back on Indian soil. Same noise, more speed, a bit more space. Not subtle, not cheap, but very fast. Welcome back.
