Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition: A Sportier Take on an Indian Favourite

The Toyota Fortuner is back with a fresh dose of attitude. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the 2025 Fortuner Leader Edition, a sportier and more stylish iteration of India’s most popular premium SUV. Priced from around ₹38 lakh (ex-showroom), it’s designed for buyers who like their Fortuner with a touch more flair.

Bolder Design, Sharper Details

The Leader Edition takes the familiar Fortuner shape and amplifies its volume. A redesigned grille, sportier front and rear bumper spoilers, chrome highlights, and a new dual-tone black roof make it stand out from the regular version. The addition of glossy black alloy wheels and a signature hood emblem further amplifies its road presence.

Colour options include Attitude Black, Super White, Pearl White, and Silver, each pairing nicely with the dark roof for that premium contrast look.

Refined Yet Familiar Cabin

Inside, Toyota has created a more premium atmosphere for the Fortuner. The cabin now features black and maroon dual-tone upholstery, complemented by matching door trims. Illuminated scuff plates, auto-folding mirrors, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) add both style and safety.

It’s still unmistakably Fortuner inside, with a high seating position, big windows, and the reassuring build quality that makes it feel like a proper SUV rather than a soft-roader in disguise.

Under the Hood

Powering the Leader Edition is Toyota’s familiar 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV turbo-diesel engine, producing 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. It’s available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, both in rear-wheel-drive (4x2) configuration.

This setup offers brisk performance with smooth gearshifts, and while it’s not chasing outright speed records, it will cruise comfortably at triple-digit speeds (over 120 kmph) all day long. The Fortuner continues to deliver a commanding driving position and the kind of durability that’s made it a favourite with everyone from city executives to mountain trekkers.

On-Road and Beyond

The Fortuner’s strengths remain intact. It rides confidently over rough surfaces, and though this Leader Edition doesn’t bring any mechanical changes, the 4x2 drivetrain is more than capable for mild off-road adventures. Toyota’s engineers have managed to keep the balance between comfort and toughness, something rivals still struggle to match.

The Toyota Touch

Toyota’s reliability record is the Fortuner’s biggest badge of honour. The company says the Leader Edition is meant for customers who want a distinctive and premium SUV without compromising on practicality. “Encouraged by the overwhelming response to the 2024 Fortuner Leader Edition, this refreshed 2025 model offers sportier styling and added sophistication,” said Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
