Twisted Automotive Range Rover Classic resto-mod: the best one ever?

Twisted Automotive has revealed its reinterpretation of the iconic Range Rover Classic with a highly exclusive restomod project known as the TRRC (Twisted Range Rover Classic), marking the company’s entry into reengineering vintage luxury SUVs with a modern twist. Each TRRC begins with a donor vehicle sourced from the 1990 to 1992 period, which is then completely stripped down to its bare structure before undergoing an extensive rebuild that combines restoration with performance-focused engineering upgrades. Customers can choose between left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, ensuring usability across different markets while retaining the essence of the original model. Visually, the TRRC stands out by blending design elements from multiple eras of the Range Rover Classic, including a bumper inspired by early 1970s models and a grille design influenced by later 1990s versions, along with revised body panels, flared wheel arches and carefully reworked proportions that give the SUV a distinctive identity. The stance has also been altered, with a slightly lower front end and larger wheels filling out the arches, resulting in a more aggressive and planted look that leans towards a subtle hot rod-inspired aesthetic without losing its classic silhouette.

Under the bonnet, the TRRC is powered by a 6.2-litre Chevrolet LT1 V8 engine that produces approximately 500bhp, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission to deliver significantly improved performance over the original vehicle. To ensure the chassis can handle this increase in power, Twisted has implemented a series of mechanical upgrades, including strengthened differentials, a high-performance braking system featuring six-piston front calipers, and a comprehensively revised suspension setup with new springs, dampers and bushings designed to improve both ride quality and handling. Inside the cabin, the focus remains on preserving the classic feel while subtly integrating modern comforts, with features such as upgraded infotainment, properly functioning air conditioning, heated seats and improved insulation contributing to a more refined driving experience. Additional thoughtful changes include lowering the seating position to enhance driver visibility and incorporating soundproofing materials within the carpets so that the original painted surfaces remain visible, maintaining the vehicle’s heritage appeal.

Each TRRC is built to order and offers extensive customisation options, allowing buyers to personalise everything from exterior paint finishes to interior materials and even finer design elements such as the C-pillar treatment. Production is deliberately limited to around 12 units per year, and all examples are configured as two-door models, reinforcing the exclusivity of the project. The TRRC has been engineered not just as a collector’s piece but as a usable grand tourer that can be driven and enjoyed regularly, staying true to the original Range Rover’s dual-purpose nature. The project is also deeply personal, drawing inspiration from founder Charles Fawcett and his early experiences with the Range Rover Classic, resulting in a build that blends nostalgia, craftsmanship and modern performance into a unique and highly desirable package.
