Volkswagen launches Tayron R-Line at Rs 46.99 lakh

Volkswagen has launched the Tayron R-Line in India at Rs 46.99 lakh introductory ex-showroom, marking its return to the premium three-row SUV segment. Locally assembled at the brand’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, the Tayron now becomes Volkswagen’s flagship SUV in India. Bookings remain open for a token amount of Rs 51,000, both online and at dealerships. A lower specification variant is expected to join the range later this year.

A bigger, sportier sibling to the Tiguan

The Tayron R-Line is essentially the three-row version of the Tiguan R-Line, but with added presence and space. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and gets Matrix LED headlamps along with illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear.

Seven exterior colour options are on offer, including Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic and Oryx White.

Feature-rich cabin

Inside, the Tayron R-Line gets a 15-inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. A heads-up display is also part of the package. Other highlights include an 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and powered front seats with heating, ventilation, massage, and memory functions. The focus is clearly on comfort as much as technology.

Proven turbo petrol power

Under the bonnet sits Volkswagen’s familiar EA888 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 201bhp and 320Nm. It is paired with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels via the brand’s All Wheel Drive system. Volkswagen claims a 0 to 100kmph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 224kmph.

The positioning

With three rows, 201bhp and a long list of comfort features, the Tayron R-Line is positioned as a practical yet performance-oriented SUV. It fills the gap left by the Tiguan Allspace and gives Volkswagen a stronger presence in the premium SUV segment.
