How does it apply to road safety?
Ather Energy Limited and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve road safety and infrastructure in Pune using data generated by Ather’s Pothole+ Alerts technology.
Under this one-year collaboration, Ather will share agreed road-related data with PMC, including information about potholes, broken road patches and uneven stretches as an additional source of information to identify damaged road stretches, monitor recurring road damage and plan targeted repairs.
How AtherStack 7 & Pothole+ Alerts Work?
The initiative uses Ather’s connected scooter fleet, powered by AtherStack7, to gather information about road conditions along everyday routes, identifying potentially rough stretches, alerting riders through in-navigation warnings and suggesting smoother routes.
Protecting Customer Privacy Throughout Data Collection
Importantly, the data shared with PMC will consist of location-based road information and will not include customers' personal data, according to reports on the proposed arrangement.
Connecting Technology with Urban Infrastructure
By sharing these fleet-generated insights with PMC, Ather aims to extend the use of connected vehicle technology beyond improving the riding experience. The collaboration highlights the growing importance of technology and data in urban infrastructure planning, enabling civic authorities to make more informed decisions about road maintenance and safety.
