Audi RS4 Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Limited Edition Model

Audi has announced a special quarter-of-the-century edition of the RS4 Avant, but only for customers in global markets – not India. Limited to only 250 units worldwide, the car proudly sports the iconic Imola Yellow paint job, just like the original B5 RS4.

There is more than just sex appeal to this limited edition. This limited edition RS4 Avant has been tuned up by the folks in Audi’s RS division. They have not settled on anything less than the most powerful RS4 ever built, with not just increased power figures but also a major rework of the suspension being undertaken. Looking back, the B5 generation, built in 1999, was the first RS model from Quattro GmbH (now Audi Sport GmbH). The first Avant station wagon came in the 1990s with the RS2 and A6 performance wagons, establishing the concept of the performance station wagon. On paper, Audi's efforts to compete with the BMW M3 Touring might seem to fall short, but specs only tell part of the story.

The Audi 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 gets a bump from 450hp to 470hp, a significant 20hp increase. Torque figures remain unchanged at a maximum of 600Nm. The 0-100kmph time improves slightly, shaving 0.4 seconds off the current RS4 Avant and 0.2 seconds off the RS4 Competition. Standard features include ceramic brakes and the RS-specific exhaust system Plus with a throaty exhaust note. The RS sports suspension sits 10mm lower than before with adjustable coilovers, offering the option for an additional 10mm drop. Audi also reworked the front camber, control arms, and quattro sport differential to deliver a more rear-biased driving experience.

Audi RS4 Avant 25th Anniversary Edition: Inside and Out

The 25th Anniversary Edition isn't limited to Imola Yellow. Audi offers options of Nardo gray and Mythos black for those who want to blend in with normal RS4s. Black accents are a mix of shiny black and matte carbon on the body kit. The station wagon loses out on roof rails, this might be considering there is plenty of space made available inside. This special edition comes with two sets of 20-inch tyres: P Zero Corsas for both road and track use, and an extra set of P Zero Trofeo RS semi-slicks for track enthusiasts.

Audi has even considered the driver's needs, providing racing gloves made by Alpinestars with special yellow accents for the limited edition. The package also includes a commemorative watch with a carbon dial and yellow details, including the RS 4 logo, the central stopwatch second-hand, and yellow contrast stitching on the leather straps. The yellow theme continues inside the car with matching stitching and a build number plaque near the gear selector.
