Mercedes will launch two new models, the CLE Cabriolet and GLC 43 4Matic Coupe, on August 8. These are both full import models and form 2 of the 6 models Mercedes plans to launch in the remaining part of 2024. Here is what to expect from them:
The CLE Cabriolet was first unveiled in the international markets in July 2023. Its base is the Mercedes Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, which also underpins the C-class and the soon-to-be-launched E-class. We expect it to be an exclusively convertible version in India.
When considering looks, the exquisite model has a large grill inspired by a shark's nose, a long bonnet, and a fabric roof that disappears into the boot.
The interior has an 11.9-inch infotainment screen in portrait style. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides it company. Its 2+2 seating capacity accommodates 4 people.
Internationally, the CLE gets a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol powerhouse that gets two performance tunings, CLE 200 and CLE 300 4Martic. The 200 produces 201 bhp, while the 300 4Matic produces 254 bhp. There is also an AMG variant that produces 443 bhp. These engines are supported by a 48V mild-hybrid electric motor in the 9-speed torque convertor that boosts 22 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. You can opt for a 2.0L diesel engine that produces 194 if you prefer diesel. The version that we will get in India still needs to be determined.
It might get a price upward of 1 crore and lock horns with the BMW Z4 M40i.
The GLC 43 gets a stylish coupe-like roofline and the design you expect from AMGs. These features include an AMG grille, bold front and rear bumpers, AMG-centric side skirts, an evident rear diffuser, four exhaust pipes, and 21-inch alloys on the side.
The interior is not very different from the GLC except for some AMG bits. These include an AMG steering wheel, sports seats covered with Nappa Leather, AMG badged pedals and floor mats. The instrument cluster and infotainment panel also get software with AMG graphics.
The GLC 43 4Matic is equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine featuring mild-hybrid technology. This powertrain delivers 415 bhp and 500 Nm. In real-world numbers, it can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 250 kmph. The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, providing power to all four wheels through an AWD drivetrain. Standard features include rear-wheel steering, high-performance brakes, speed-sensitive steering, and adjustable suspension dampers.
This car would also cross the 1 crore mark while locking horns with the X3 M40i.
