Tata Nexon & Nexon.EV launched at attractive prices

The Tata Nexon has had two facelifts; the first of which was introduced in 2020. The base Smart MT model of the Nexon facelift is now available from Tata Motors for Rs 8.10 lakh.

Tata Motors has also introduced the Nexon.ev, with beginning costs for the base MR (medium range) version starting at Rs 14.74 lakh and rising to Rs 19.94 lakh for the highest-specified LR (long-range) variant (ex-showroom, India).

Tata Motors has given the Nexon EV mechanical changes as well, giving it greater range than a standard facelift with visual and function enhancements. According to the brand's new EV nomenclature, the Nexon EV has also been renamed to Nexon.ev with this upgrade.

Exterior Looks and dimensions

The Curvv and Harrier EV concept ideas served as design influence for the Nexon makeover. It has a split headlamp design, with the daytime running lights (DRLs) at the top and the headlights mounted in a trapezoidal housing on the bumper. The lower part of the bumper has a broad bar running across it that holds the number plate, and the DRL are joined by a thin top grille where the Tata Motors emblem is located.

The 16-inch alloy wheels now have a fresh look, and the accent line is no longer accentuated in a contrasting color. The reverse light has been relocated to the bumper and the Nexon makeover now features a full-width LED light bar linking the taillights.

The SUV's dimensions have somewhat changed; its length and height have risen by 2 mm and 14 mm, respectively, while its width has fallen by 7 mm. However, the wheelbase and ground clearance remain unchanged at 2,498mm and 208mm, respectively. The boot has a 382 liter capacity, according to Tata Motors.

Interiors and features

The Nexon facelift's inside is quite similar to the Curvv idea. The HVAC controls are now controlled via a touch-based display, and the center console has far fewer physical buttons. It also boasts AC vents that are smaller and more angular. The dashboard also receives leather accents and a gloss that resembles carbon fiber.

A 10.25-inch floating touchscreen and a similarly sized digital instrument cluster with navigation are included in the top-tier Nexon makeover. Other amenities include a voice-activated sunroof, a 360-degree camera, linked car technology, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, and more. Six airbags are included as standard equipment across the whole range, along with ESC, three-point seat belts for every passenger, ISOFIX, and emergency and breakdown call assistance.

Powertrain Options

Nexon

The 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine with 120 horsepower and 170 nm and the 1.5-liter diesel engine remain under the hood of the Nexon facelift. Despite both engines maintaining their current 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT, depending on the version, the petrol engine additionally offers the choice of a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters).

Tata Motors is no longer utilizing the former version nomenclature that began with "X" - XE, XM, XM+, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux - and is instead employing a naming structure that is similar to Punch. These trims are Smart, Smart+, Smart+ S, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative+, Creative+ S, Fearless, Fearless S, and Fearless+ S of the Nexon makeover. The "+" represents add-on packages with many features that are optional, while the "S" represents the inclusion of the sunroof.

Nexon.EV

There are two Nexon.ev variations: MR and LR. The LR receives a bigger 40.5kWh battery whereas the MR receives a smaller 30kWh battery. The range has increased despite the fact that battery sizes have stayed the same. The MR and LR both have ranges of 325 and 465 kilometers (km), respectively, according to the ARAI, which is an increase of 12 kilometers.

The batteries in both models can now be fully charged from 10 to 100 percent in 4.3 hours for the MR and 6 hours for the LR using a regular 7.2kW AC charger. You can now charge other electrical devices or even another EV with the Nexon.ev thanks to its V2V (vehicle to vehicle) and V2L (vehicle to load) charging capabilities.

The MR and LR both generate 215Nm of torque and 129 horsepower, respectively, as outputs. It's interesting to note that while power outputs have stayed constant, torque on the MR model has decreased by 30Nm, while it has decreased by 38Nm on the LR variant. The LR's 0-100kph sprint time is 8.9 seconds, according to Tata, and it has a peak speed of 150kph.

Three driving modes—Eco, City, and Sport—are available, and the paddle shifters may adjust the four levels of brake regeneration.
