KTM 160 Duke launched for Rs 1.85 lakh

The KTM Duke series has experienced a significant 30–35% growth over the last year, even as most other companies have seen only moderate or no growth in the middle-weight bike segment. Bajaj Auto, through its partnerships with KTM and Triumph, has strengthened its dominance in this space, capitalising on its reputation for high-performance motorcycles that blend technology, style, and aggressive pricing.

KTM 160 Duke – The Most Powerful in Its Class

The all-new KTM 160 Duke steps into the premium 160cc category with a clear claim: to be the most powerful motorcycle in its class. It is powered by a 164.2 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder SOHC engine producing 19 bhp at 9500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. This performance is wrapped in KTM’s legendary READY TO RACE DNA, ensuring a blend of everyday usability and aggressive street presence.

The bike’s chassis is built around the iconic split trellis frame, paired with WP Apex forks that feature a hollow axle for improved rigidity. KTM has used bionic light wheels and a lighter hugger tube to reduce unsprung mass, improving handling and ride quality. A casted pillion step holder and sleek grab rail add to both aesthetics and ergonomics. Braking duties are handled by a 320 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc, while a 5-inch LCD display provides crisp and modern instrumentation.

Everyday Practicality

Weighing just 147 kg kerb, the KTM 160 Duke promises a nimble ride, ideal for handling city traffic. The motorcycle features a 1357 mm wheelbase, 174 mm of ground clearance, and an 815 mm seat height — specifications that strike a balance between rider comfort and control. Tubeless tyres (110/70 R17 front and 140/60 R17 rear) reduced puncture worries, while the 10.1-litre fuel tank strikes a balance between compactness and range.

Available in Electronic Orange, Atlantic Blue, and Silver Metallic Matte, the bike is priced at ₹1,84,998 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings are open online and at KTM dealerships nationwide.

The RC 160 Could Be Next

Given KTM’s strategy of offering both naked and faired options in other engine capacities, it is highly likely that a KTM RC 160 will follow soon. Such a move would give KTM a competitive advantage in both the naked streetfighter and fully faired sportbike categories within the 160cc segment.

Rivals – Going Up Against Yamaha’s 155cc Icons

The KTM 160 Duke is set to take on Yamaha’s MT-15 and R15, both of which run a 155cc liquid-cooled engine producing 18 bhp and 14.1 Nm of torque. On paper, the KTM edges ahead in both power (+1 bhp) and torque (+1.4 Nm), giving it a performance advantage. However, Yamaha’s long-standing reputation, especially with the R15’s track-focused dynamics, means KTM will need to prove that its additional output translates into a better real-world riding experience.

Conclusion

The KTM 160 Duke marks a bold entry into the premium 160cc segment, bringing the brand’s performance-oriented engineering to a more accessible price point. With class-leading power, premium hardware, and aggressive styling, it is well-positioned to attract young riders and first-time buyers who want more than just a commuter bike. Whether it can dethrone Yamaha’s dominance remains to be seen, but one thing is sure — KTM has thrown down the gauntlet, and the race in this segment is about to get a lot more exciting.
