Mercedes has built a special Maybach S680 that takes its inspiration from yachts. Why? To mark the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, a legendary luxury maker of fine yachts and silverware. The yacht in it pays homage to is the Sphinx 12mR yacht, that was restored by Robbe & Berking some years back. This yacht was first made in 1939.
Design
The special edition looks exquisite with its Nautical Blue metallic and Manufaktur Patagonia Red hue. You dont see these colours together very often, and that is what makes it special. Between these colours is a narrow stripe that is coloured in the Manufaktur Opalite White. This is a sign of the yacht’s white waterline.
Interiors
On the inside, you will find a luxury Manufaktur Exclusive Nappa leather coloured in Crystal White that is further made luxurious with diamond quilting. The upholstery is perfectly contrasted with the stitching in an Orion Gray colour. Mercedes further takes the inspiration from the deck of the ship which by adding a walnut wood trim and aluminium strips on the inside. Then there are bits to add to the comfort of the Mercedes, which include Nappa leather-trimmed cushions of the white colour with Orion Gray diamond stitching that also gets a Maybach logo engraved into it. Other features include power-operated comfort doors, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a Burmester 4D surround sound music system.
Special Champagne Glasses
The luxury of the car extends to the way you can sip your favourite champagne in it. It gets a cooling compartment and two silver-plated champagne glasses for the passengers to enjoy on their voyage. These are specially made by Robbe & Berking.
Powertrain
There is no change in the powertrain of this model compared to the S680. It has a 6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that can produce a massive 621 Bhp of power and 900 Nm of torque, allowing the car to hit a top speed of 250 kmph. This engine is paired with a 9-speed gearbox with an AWD drivetrain. Even after having such mammoth performance numbers, it is known for being a silent powerhouse.
Just 1 To be Made
Mercedes has decided to make only 1 car of this special model, which has already been booked by a customer. So, all you can do is look at it and drool over the beauty. While we dont know how much that customer paid for this model, the standard S680 costs around 3.44 Crores (Ex-showroom) in India.
