Volkswagen Unveils ID.4 in India and Ups the Sportiness of the Taigun!

Volkswagen held a grand event to announce products and some updates to its existing lineup in Jaipur with its 2024 annual brand conference. These include new GT Plus Sport and GT Line variants on the Taigun and the much-anticipated unveiling of the ID.4 in India. Read ahead to find all you need to know about what Volkswagen has announced.

Taigun GT Line Revised Completely

Volkswagen has introduced a new lineup for the variants of its Taigun. This includes three options: 'GT Edge', 'Chrome', and 'Sport'. The 'Chrome' line lets you choose between two engine options: 1.5l TSI coupled with a 7-speed DSG or 6-speed manual transmission and 1.0l TSI with a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

The new 'Sport' line will give you a 'dark-styled' identity. This line also gets the two engine options from the 'Chrome' line. Its 1.5-litre TSI option is called the GT Plus Sport, and its 1.0-litre TSI variant is the GT Line.

The Taigun GT Plus Sport

Before its launch, Volkswagen showcased the GT Plus Sport for the first time in India. It has many changes on the inside out to amplify the SUV's 'dark-styled' aesthetic. You will find roof rails, ORVMs, LED headlamps, a rear design strip, and a black Taigun logo on the exterior. This black is contrasted well with the red-coloured GT badge and front brake callipers. The 17" Cassino black alloy wheels complete this list of upgrades on the outside.

When you enter the cabin, you will be greeted with an all-black dashboard and red ambient lights. To add to the sportiness, Volkswagen has given red stitching to the steering wheel, centre armrest and seats. The Aluminium pedals reassure you that the SUV is up for some fun on the road. The 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine powers this trim, producing 174 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It is mated with two transmission options: a six-speed manual and a DSG automatic.

The Taigun GT Line?

Volkswagen intends to 'democratize' the GT badge by introducing the Taigun GT line. This will come with the 1.0L TSI engine. It produces 114 bhp with 178 Nm of Torque. You can choose to deliver this power to the wheels through a 6-speed Manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. It gets the same exterior and interior treatment as the GT Plus Sport. In addition, it has six airbags that up the safety quotient.

What else did they show?

Volkswagen unveiled the internationally available ID.4 EV in India at this event. This model represents Volkswagen's plans for an electric future and was much awaited in India. While they didn't mention when it will come out, it is bound to make an entry into India.

Volkswagen also gave a sneak peek at the GT Plus variant they are developing for the Vrtus. We can expect it to be released in the latter half of this year, ID.5, which has a coupe shape, will be giving India a miss, and we can’t wait to see the ID.4 on our roads. Expect prices to be around half a crore mark!
