Aprilia Racing secures 1-2 finish at the Circuit of Americas

Aprilia Racing team made history with another spectacular 1-2 finish at the Circuit of America. Marco Bezzecchi took his fifth consecutive win and his third of the season, with teammate Jorge Martin securing his second podium of the season, finishing second.

Marco Bezzecchi started from fourth position due to a penalty he received in qualifying. During the first lap itself, the front wing of his RS GP26 got damaged due to contact with another bike. Despite all this, he managed to take the lead in the first lap and continued his lead till the chequered flag. This makes him one of the few MotoGP riders claiming 5 victories in a row, with others being the likes of Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi.

The six-time race winner has broken another record of the maximum laps in lead over a 5-race period, with him leading for 121 laps. He has basically been in the lead for almost all the laps in the previous 5 Grand Prix, breaking the record of Jorge Lorenzo, who led for 103 laps. In addition to that, Bezzecchi also became the first rider to win the first 3 opening races of a season.

After his win, Marco Bezzecchi emphasised how he “made a mistake” that he should have avoided in qualifying, but also emphasised how the team was very close to him and he was “happy and thrilled” to have won this race, with teammate Jorge Martin also thanking the Aprilia team for his first sprint victory earlier. Jorge also emphasised how racing with his teammate, Marco, was “incredible” and how he was pushing till the last moment to make up ground. Team principal Massimo Rivola was also pleased by the “synergy” displayed by the factory at Noale and the people on track.

This is Aprilia Racing's eleventh victory in the top class, along with their second win at the Circuit of Americas, after Maverick Vinales’ win in 2024.
