2026 KTM 990 RC R Track unveiled.

Introducing the KTM 990 RC R Track, KTM's brand new track-only motorcycle, a stripped-back souped-up version of the road-going 990 RC R.

KTM has left no stone unturned when it comes to designing the 990 RC R Track. Mirrors, side stands, lights and everything that adds weight are stripped out. There is a paddock stand provided along with just a tail light for wet-weather riding. A taller windscreen is also provided to aid a high-speed aerodynamic profile, enabling a better tuck for the rider.

The MotoGP top speed holder – KTM’s RC16, which has clocked a colossal 366kmph during the 2023 Italian GP– was the inspiration for the aero package of the 990 RC R track. The front wing, the edges and all the fascia and cowlings are designed to provide “exceptional downforce” according to KTM. The fuel tank has a capacity of 15.4-litre and the seat height is revised to 857mm and changes to 6 different touch points to further improve the ergonomics for track use.

This superbike comes with a 947cc parallel-twin DOHC LC8C engine, making an impressive 128bhp and 105Nm of torque. Mated to a revised six-speed transmission with a longer 1st gear and a shorter 6th gear. The bike also has an Akrapovic Evolution exhaust system, offering the classic twin-cylinder sound, keeping the rider engaged while saving around 3kg, resulting in a better power-to-weight ratio.

On the suspension front, it is equipped with top-of-the-line fully adjustable WP Apex suspension and rides on Michelin Power Slick tyres. The braking hardware is top-notch too, with a 320mm Brembo HY-disc up front with a four-pot caliper and a 240mm disc at the rear.

When it comes to the electronics, it is equipped with a 4.2-inch colour TFT screen along with a revised compact electronics system, which helps save another 2kg. It comes with three track modes that enable the rider to change and adjust these parameters according to preference and track conditions: the throttle response, traction control, launch control and even engine braking. The bike also has a pit lane limiter along with a quickshifter, which enables both upshifts and downshifts without needing the clutch.

KTM has also announced a 990 RC R Cup, a professionally organised six-round European race series for real non-pro riders, enabling them to learn and enjoy the 990 RC R in a controlled environment. Deliveries of the 990 RCR Track will start from April 2026.
