India’s two-wheeler industry began calendar year 2026 on a strong and stable note, with most major manufacturers reporting healthy year-on-year growth in January. Compared to the same month last year, overall volumes rose sharply, helped by improved domestic demand, steady exports and continued momentum in the electric two-wheeler space.
Cumulatively, the top six manufacturers recorded over 22.6 lakh two-wheelers sold (domestic + exports) during the month, translating into year-on-year growth of more than 25 percent. Domestic dispatches alone crossed the 18-lakh-unit mark, underlining a broad-based recovery across segments.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India
Honda emerged as the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in January 2026, reporting total sales of 5,74,411 units, marking a 29 percent increase year-on-year. Domestic sales formed the bulk of these volumes, while exports also registered growth compared to January 2025.
Honda’s performance continued to be supported by strong demand for its scooters and commuter motorcycles, helping it maintain leadership at the start of the year.
Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp followed closely with 5,57,871 units sold in January 2026. The company posted strong year-on-year growth, largely driven by its commuter motorcycle portfolio. Models such as the Splendor and HF Deluxe continued to contribute significantly to overall volumes, particularly in rural and semi-urban markets.
Hero’s domestic sales formed the majority of its monthly numbers, while exports also showed improvement compared to the previous year.
TVS Motor Company
TVS Motor Company recorded 4,94,195 units in total two-wheeler sales during January 2026, representing high double-digit year-on-year growth. The company saw gains across motorcycles, scooters and electric two-wheelers.
Scooters remained a strong contributor to TVS’s domestic volumes, while its electric portfolio delivered notable numbers during the month. TVS also continued to post healthy export figures, contributing to its overall growth.
Bajaj Auto
Bajaj Auto reported total two-wheeler sales of 4,06,295 units in January 2026, registering a year-on-year increase of around 24 percent. Growth came from both domestic and export markets, with exports continuing to play a significant role in Bajaj’s overall volumes.
The company’s motorcycle lineup across commuter and performance segments contributed to its steady monthly performance.
Suzuki Motorcycle India
Suzuki Motorcycle India recorded 1,25,786 units sold in January 2026, reflecting around 15 percent year-on-year growth. Domestic sales remained the primary driver, supported by demand for both scooters and entry-level motorcycles.
Exports also contributed positively, helping Suzuki maintain consistent growth compared to the same period last year.
Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield sold 1,04,322 motorcycles in January 2026, registering approximately 14 percent year-on-year growth. Domestic sales accounted for the majority of volumes, while exports continued to add incremental growth.
Motorcycles below the 350cc segment remained key contributors to Royal Enfield’s monthly numbers, helping the brand maintain steady momentum early in the year.
Electric two-wheeler segment
The electric two-wheeler segment continued its upward trajectory in January 2026. TVS led the EV scooter space with around 34,440 units sold, making it the highest-selling electric two-wheeler manufacturer for the month.
Other manufacturers such as Bajaj, Ather and Hero also reported increased electric scooter volumes, indicating sustained consumer interest in EVs alongside internal-combustion models.
Overall industry snapshot
Across manufacturers, domestic two-wheeler sales grew by over 26 percent year-on-year in January 2026, while combined domestic and export volumes rose by more than 25 percent. The growth was seen across motorcycles, scooters and electric two-wheelers, suggesting balanced demand rather than reliance on a single segment.
Improving rural demand, stable urban sales and steady export performance were key contributors to the industry’s January showing.
With multiple new product launches expected through 2026 and continued expansion of electric offerings, the two-wheeler industry has started the year on a firm footing.
