Unveiled by BMW Motorrad, the M 1000 RS is claimed to be the world's most powerful hyper-naked bike, producing 218hp from the BMW M 1000 RR sourced engine and limited to only 1,000 units.
Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Design
The BMW M 1000 RS gets a distinctive design with a more front-wheel-oriented riding position and unlike a fully faired RR, the hyper-naked RS leaves its mechanical components exposed.
The motorcycle features matt carbon M winglets with RS lettering, full-LED headlights, brushed aluminum fuel tank, matt carbon components, new graphics and the rear section design taken from the BMW M 1000 RR.
It also gets an M seat with an Alcantara-look finish, RS embroidery and a height increase of 20mm compared with the BMW M 1000 R.
Engine & Performance
Powering the BMW M 1000 RS is the 999cc, water-cooled, four-cylinder inline engine, similar the BMW M 1000 R & RR, but now producing 218hp at 14,500rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000rpm, using features like BMW ShiftCam variable intake camshaft control, DOHC four valves per cylinder operation and an exceptionally high compression ratio of 14.5:1.
Power is transmitted through a six-speed constant-mesh gearbox paired with a mechanically operated, multi-plate anti-hopping wet clutch to a chain final drive.
BMW claims a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 283km/h.
Chassis, Suspension & Braking
The M 1000 RS uses an aluminum composite bridge frame with the engine serving as a partially load-bearing component.
At the front, it gets a 45mm upside-down telescopic fork equipped with electronically controlled Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) that allows electronic adjustment of rebound and compression damping, along with adjustable spring preload.
The rear suspension uses an aluminum underslung double-sided swingarm and a central spring strut with Dynamic Damping Control for a similar adjustability to the front suspension. The total travel thus comes down to 120mm at the front and 117mm at the rear.
Braking system comprises of M 320mm twin-floating disc brakes and radial four-piston fixed calipers at the front and the rear getting a 220mm single disc with a single-piston floating caliper. BMW Motorrad ABS Pro and BMW Motorrad Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) also come as standard.
The M Carbon wheels measure 17 inches at both ends, paired with a 120/70 ZR17 front tyre and a wider 200/55 ZR17 rear tyre.
Features & Technology
The BMW M 1000 RS comes with a list of standard equipment for a limited-edition special BMW like a short-stroke M throttle, heated grips, cruise control, Riding Modes Pro, Gearshift Assistant Pro, Dynamic Damping Control, M Carbon wheels, full-titanium exhaust system, the aforementioned M braking kit, matt carbon winglets and an M seat with an Alcantara-look finish.
The motorcycle also has M brake and clutch levers, bar-end mirrors, Tyre Pressure Control (RDC), Keyless Ride and the M Track Package.
Dimensions & Specifications
The BMW M 1000 RS measures 2,095mm in overall length and 996mm in overall width, a seat height of 850mm and a wheelbase of 1,467mm, longer, wider, taller at the seat, and lighter than the hyper-naked M 1000 R and matching the exact wheelbase of the track-focused S 1000 RR.
Its kerb weight including road-ready equipment and a full 16.5L fuel tank, is just 196kg, where full-sized 1000cc hyper-nakeds weigh between 200 kg and 210 kg wet.
Price & Availability
BMW Motorrad has confirmed that the M 1000 RS will be available through its dealerships from March 2027 with production being limited to 1,000 units worldwide.
Pricing details for other markets than Germany (€40,000) have not yet been announced, but converting to INR, before local taxes and import duties, the M 1000 RS gets to roughly ₹42.53 lakh-ex showroom, even significantly higher.
