Ducati has launched the new Hypermotard V2 and Hypermotard V2 SP in India, introducing the fourth generation of its supermotard motorcycle. Both models feature an all-new 890cc V-twin engine, a monocoque frame and an updated electronics package. While the standard Hypermotard V2 focuses on delivering an engaging riding experience, the V2 SP gets upgraded suspension, lighter wheels and additional track-oriented equipment.
The Ducati Hypermotard V2 is priced at ₹16.53 lakh, while the Hypermotard V2 SP costs ₹20.78 lakh, both ex-showroom, India. Bookings for both motorcycles are now open across Ducati dealerships in the country.
Design
The new Hypermotard V2 retains the distinctive styling associated with Ducati's supermotard range while introducing a more compact and contemporary design. Key elements include the double-wing fuel tank, a streamlined front end and dual under-seat exhausts. The overall design emphasises a lightweight appearance and a compact profile.
The fourth-generation model continues a lineage that began with a prototype showcased at EICMA in 2005, which won the Best of Show award. The latest version brings a completely redesigned technical platform while retaining the characteristic styling elements of the Hypermotard family.
Engine and Performance
Powering both motorcycles is Ducati's new 890cc V-twin engine, which produces 120hp at 10,750rpm and 94Nm of torque at 8,250rpm. Weighing just 54.4kg, Ducati describes it as the lightest twin-cylinder engine it has produced.
The engine features an IVT variable intake valve timing system designed to deliver a responsive performance across the rev range. According to Ducati, 70 per cent of the engine's maximum torque is available at 3,000rpm, helping provide strong acceleration when exiting corners.
An optional racing exhaust further increases power by 3.6hp while reducing weight by an additional 4kg.
Chassis, Suspension and Brakes
The new Hypermotard V2 introduces a monocoque frame that uses the engine as a structural element. It is paired with a new double-sided aluminium swingarm. Together with the revised platform, these changes reduce weight by 13kg on the standard V2 and 14kg on the V2 SP compared to the previous generation.
The standard Hypermotard V2 gets fully adjustable 46mm upside-down Kayaba front forks and a Kayaba monoshock adjustable for preload and rebound. It runs cast light-alloy wheels and uses Brembo M4.32 brake calipers, with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres measuring 120/70 at the front and 190/55 at the rear.
The Hypermotard V2 SP gets higher-spec hardware, including fully adjustable 48mm Öhlins NIX30 upside-down forks and an Öhlins STX46 monoshock. It also features forged aluminium wheels, Brembo M50 brake calipers and Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tyres in the same front and rear sizes.
In terms of weight, the standard V2 has a kerb weight of 180kg without fuel, while the V2 SP weighs 177kg without fuel. Both motorcycles have a seat height of 880mm.
Features and Electronics
Both versions receive an electronics package built around a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). The system includes cornering ABS with a Slide by Brake function, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC).
The motorcycles also feature Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) 2.0 for gear changes and a new 5-inch full-TFT instrument display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a petal-style joystick. Riders can choose between four riding modes: Race, Sport, Road and Wet.
The Hypermotard V2 SP additionally comes with Ducati Power Launch and a Pit Limiter as standard. Both functions are available as accessories for the standard V2.
Other differences include a carbon-fibre front fender and a lithium battery on the SP, while the standard V2 uses a lead-acid battery.
