Audi’s China-only A6L unveiled

Audi has unveiled a China-only version of the A6 sedan called the A6L. Produced through the joint venture of Chinese FAW and Audi, the A6L offers a longer wheelbase and roomier interiors compared to the standard A6. It goes up against the long wheelbase versions of the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series.

It's a limousine!

The A6L measures 5142mm and has a 132mm longer wheelbase compared to the standard A6. The design is similar to the latest-gen global A6 with a slightly revised grille pattern, Audi's iconic dot-matrix LED headlights, connected tail lights and illuminated Audi logos. On the side, the rear doors are significantly longer compared to the standard A6 to accommodate the longer wheelbase. S-line variants have darker accents all over the body with up to 21-inch wheels.

More bling on the Inside

On the inside, the cabin remains unchanged from the standard A6 with a few changes; the dashboard has an 11.9-inch digital driver's display, a 14.5-inch central infotainment screen and a heads-up display. Buyers can also spec an optional passenger display. It has a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with a massive China-specific 21.1 square feet panoramic sunroof with 112 RGB lights.

With the lengthened wheelbase, the rear seats offer better legroom compared to the standard A6, with Audi claiming they are “thicker and lengthened” to suit local demands.

Powertrains

The Audi A6L is equipped with two engine options paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The base Audi A6L has a 2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system producing 204bhp and 360Nm of torque. There is also a higher-powered Quattro all-wheel-drive version with the same engine, making 272bhp and 400Nm torque. The top variant is equipped with a 3-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine mated to an electric motor and a 1.7kWh battery, which produces a combined 371bhp and 550Nm of torque. The top variant with Quattro all-wheel-drive can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds.

The Chinese prices of the A6L start from CNY 323,000 and go up to CNY 436,000 (₹43.3 lakh to ₹56.5 lakh). There is no official confirmation of the India launch of the A6L, but given the popularity of the BMW 5 series LWB and the Mercedes E-class LWB in India, Audi might consider launching the A6L with the standard A6 facelift.
