Hyundai BAYON Launched in India at Rs 9.99 Lakh; Gets Generative AI Voice Assistant and Level 2 Pro ADAS

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched the new Hyundai BAYON in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 9,99,900 (ex-showroom). Positioned as an Intelligent Utility Vehicle, the BAYON brings together a new-age design, connected technology, advanced driver assistance systems and a petrol powertrain. It also marks Hyundai India's first SUV to feature an in-built generative AI voice assistant and Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS.

The BAYON is built on Hyundai's Global K Enhanced Platform and will be manufactured in India. The company also plans to export the SUV to more than 50 international markets, strengthening India's role as a manufacturing and export hub.

Design and Dimensions

The Hyundai BAYON features a modern SUV design with an upright stance, sculpted bonnet, pronounced fenders and a futuristic front fascia. The front gets H-Edge LED daytime running lights paired with high-intensity dual LED projector headlamps.

Along the sides, geometric wheel arches, wraparound door cladding and bridge-type roof rails contribute to its SUV styling. The BAYON also gets 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, while the rear features H-Edge LED tail lamps, a sporty roof spoiler with a vertically positioned high-mounted stop lamp and a spread-type Hyundai emblem.

The cabin follows a dual-tone Black and Olive Grey theme, complemented by leatherette seat upholstery, a soft-touch crashpad insert and ambient lighting integrated into the crashpad and door pockets. A two-tone D-cut steering wheel and dual curved displays complete the contemporary interior.

Measuring 4,245 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, the BAYON has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. It also offers 205 mm of ground clearance and a claimed boot capacity of 505 litres.

Engine and Performance

Powering the Hyundai BAYON is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine producing 115hp at 6300 rpm and 143.8Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT).

The iVT-equipped version gets Dash Boost Mode, designed to improve responsiveness during overtaking, along with Sporty Drive Tech for a more engaging acceleration experience. The SUV also features Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, paddle shifters and Idle Stop & Go technology.

Features and Technology

One of the key highlights of the Hyundai BAYON is its in-built generative AI voice assistant, featuring intelligence by Perplexity and voice AI powered by SoundHound AI. The system enables conversational interactions and can provide information on subjects such as travel itineraries, weather, hotels, restaurants, news and sports.

The SUV features Hyundai's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), accelerated by NVIDIA, alongside dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays. The connected technology package includes more than 70 Hyundai Bluelink features, over-the-air updates for up to 19 controllers, more than 500 embedded voice commands and support for 10 regional and two international languages.

Other highlights include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose premium sound system and three years of complimentary Hyundai Bluelink subscription.

Comfort and convenience features include ventilated front seats, an eight-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, two-step rear reclining seats, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and a panoramic sunroof. The SUV also gets a wireless smartphone charger, USB Type-C charging ports, a smart key with push-button start, a sliding front console armrest and a 60:40 split rear seat.

Safety is another major focus of the Hyundai BAYON. Hyundai says the SUV's body structure incorporates 69 per cent advanced multi-grade high-strength steel and has been engineered to meet five-star Indian safety standards.
