BMW has launched the X1 Long Wheelbase in India, which will be sold alongside the standard X1. As its name suggests, the X1 LWB offers a more spacious cabin, while its introductory price starts at ₹49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it ₹1 lakh more affordable than the standard X1. The X1 LWB is available exclusively with a petrol engine. Here is everything you need to know about the X1 LWB.
Exterior
The BMW X1 LWB shares its overall design with the standard X1, but its wheelbase has been stretched by 108mm to offer more space inside. Apart from the increased dimensions, the overall design language remains largely unchanged. It gets the same 18-inch alloy wheels, sharp LED headlights and taillamps. However, the X1 LWB can be distinguished from the standard X1 by its silver door-side trim and chrome window surrounds.
Interior
Things remain largely unchanged inside the cabin as well. The X1 LWB retains the same driver-focused layout, featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment display. The biggest difference comes at the rear, where the additional length translates to 150mm more legroom and 109mm more kneeroom. The rear seat base is also 15mm longer, offering improved under-thigh support and greater comfort for rear passengers.
Engine and Gearbox
The BMW X1 LWB is offered exclusively with a petrol engine, unlike the standard X1, which is available with both petrol and diesel powertrains. It gets a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 156hp, 20hp more than the regular X1, along with 230Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. BMW claims a 0-100kph acceleration time of 9.3 seconds.
Pricing and Rivals
The BMW X1 LWB is priced at ₹49.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3 in the entry-level luxury SUV segment. With best-in-segment cabin space and a lower price than its key rivals, the X1 LWB offers a strong value proposition.
