Citroën Basalt X: Darker Looks, More Kit, Same Engines

Citroën has given the Basalt its ‘X’ treatment, a mildly sportier edition with a darker theme, more equipment inside, and a badge to remind you it’s different. The Basalt X starts at ₹11.63 lakh (ex-showroom) and keeps the same petrol engines as before.

Highlights

  • New LED strips on the grille and a ‘Basalt X’ badge at the rear

  • Dual-tone black-and-tan interior with ambient lighting

  • New features: ventilated seats, cruise control, push-button start/stop

  • Safety boosted with a 360-degree camera and an auto-dimming IRVM

  • Engines unchanged: 1.2 NA petrol (81 bhp/115 Nm) and 1.2 turbo-petrol (109 bhp/205 Nm)

Key Details

Design
The coupe-SUV silhouette stays, but the Basalt X gets subtle tweaks. Horizontal LED strips sharpen up the front, and the ‘X’ badging gives away the update. It rolls on the same dual-tone 16-inch alloys, so the stance remains familiar.

Interior & Features
The real action is inside. The black-and-tan cabin looks richer than the standard Basalt, joined by ambient lighting and a centre armrest for the rear passengers. The new toys include ventilated front seats, cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and push-button start. Carryover kit includes the 10.25-inch touchscreen, 7-inch driver’s display, wireless charging, and adjustable rear seat support. Safety continues with six airbags, TPMS, ISOFIX, and hill-hold assist.

Engines
No change here:

  • 1.2-litre NA petrol – 81 bhp, 115 Nm, 5-speed manual

  • 1.2-litre turbo-petrol – 109 bhp, up to 205 Nm, with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic

Rivals
The most direct rival is the Tata Curvv, but buyers may also weigh it against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, VW Taigun, and even Citroën’s own Aircross.

Summary

Citroën has simply given it a smarter suit and a few comfort tricks to keep buyers interested. If you liked the standard Basalt but wanted it to feel more upmarket, this edition might be the one to shortlist.
