There’s now a way to own a Formula One car for under ₹3,200. You’ll have to supply your own miniature racing dreams and small-furniture street circuits, but it’s all part of the joy.
Hot Wheels has just released a limited-edition 1:64 scale model of the APXGP car from the upcoming F1 movie. If that means nothing to you, it’s the fictional racing team at the centre of the Hollywood drama starring Brad Pitt, a bloke who seems to age more slowly than carbon fibre.
The car itself is cast in black and gold, carries the number seven proudly on its flanks and comes with a tiny Sonny Hayes figure sitting inside. Sonny, if you must know, is the seasoned racing driver in the film, and now he's also a 2.5 cm tall plastic gentleman, presumably ready to mumble some race strategy to an invisible pit wall.
You also get three sets of scaled-down Pirelli P Zero tyres, just in case you fancy a mid-session tyre strategy rethink. Sadly, the set does not include a DRS zone or a miniature Martin Brundle wandering through the grid. But you do get a collector’s case, called a ‘Kar Keepers’ clamshell, which is perfect if you're the sort who displays rather than races their Hot Wheels.
At ₹2,999 (that’s £30 in the Queen’s coin), it’s considerably cheaper than the Mercedes-AMG GT63 that was painted to match the film’s team colours. And unlike the Merc, you can store this one in your desk drawer or pocket.
Pre-orders open on 24 June, just before the movie lands in British cinemas. If nothing else, it's a very tiny way to celebrate the over-the-top world of Formula One.
