Tata Motors has launched the new Aeris compact sedan in India, positioning it as a model developed specifically for private buyers rather than the fleet and taxi market. The new sedan gets a fresh exterior design, petrol and iCNG powertrain options, an AMT gearbox option with both powertrains, and a long list of technology and safety features.
The Tata Aeris is available in five variants: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished. Prices start at ₹5.29 lakh for the petrol version and ₹6.29 lakh for the iCNG, with both prices ex-showroom Delhi.
Design
The Aeris gets a new design intended to give the compact sedan a more premium and distinctive appearance. At the front, it features signature LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights, along with a wide lower grille.
The side profile is highlighted by diamond-cut aero alloy wheels, textured wheel-arch cladding and chrome-finished door handles. The prominent deck lid further emphasises its traditional three-box sedan silhouette.
At the rear, the Aeris gets Infinity Connected LED tail lamps, giving it a distinctive lighting signature. A dual-tone black roof is also available, adding to the sedan's visual appeal.
Engine and gearbox options
The Tata Aeris is offered with both petrol and iCNG powertrain options. The petrol version uses a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron engine that produces 86hp and 113Nm of torque. It is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The iCNG version uses the same 1.2-litre engine and produces 75.5hp and 96.5Nm of torque in CNG mode. It is also offered with both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, making the Aeris one of the few CNG-powered cars in the segment to offer an automated transmission. The CNG model uses Tata's twin-cylinder iCNG setup, which has been designed to make more efficient use of available space while retaining the sedan's practicality. Tata has also equipped the CNG variants with dedicated safety systems, including leak detection, leak-proof materials, thermal incident protection and reinforced rear crash protection.
Features
Inside, the Aeris gets a technology-focused cabin with an OpenView dashboard featuring seamlessly integrated dual screens. The sedan comes with a 26.03cm HD touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.7cm digital driver display. Higher variants also get ventilated leatherette seats. Other notable equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and 65W Type-C fast-charging ports. The Aeris also gets a dual smartphone charging deck, claimed to be a first-in-segment feature. Boot space stands at 419 litres, giving the sedan a practical luggage-carrying capacity.
Safety is another area where Tata Motors has focused heavily on the Aeris. Six airbags are standard across the range, while other standard safety equipment includes Electronic Stability Program, ABS with EBD and CSC, Hill Hold Control and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. The sedan also gets several additional camera-based safety and convenience features. These include a Blind View Monitor, claimed by Tata to be a first-in-segment feature, along with a MultiView Digital Video Recorder. A 360-degree camera is also available, offering multiple 2D and 3D viewing modes to make parking and manoeuvring easier.
Pricing
The Tata Aeris gets an introductory price of ₹5.29 lakh for the Smart Petrol MT, with prices going up to ₹8.19 lakh for the Accomplished Petrol MT. The Petrol AMT range starts at ₹6.69 lakh and goes up to ₹8.74 lakh. Meanwhile, the CNG range starts at ₹6.29 lakh for the Smart CNG MT and goes up to ₹9.19 lakh for the Accomplished CNG MT, while the CNG AMT is priced between ₹7.69 lakh and ₹9.74 lakh, depending on the variant.
