The Tata Sierra has secured a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests, scoring 31.14 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 44.73 out of 49 in child occupant protection. The rating applies across all variants of the SUV.
Strong adult occupant protection
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Sierra scored 15.14 out of 16 points. Protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet was rated good, while the chest and tibiae received an adequate rating. In the side-impact tests, including the side movable barrier and pole impacts, protection for critical body regions was rated good. The SUV received an ‘OK’ rating in the side pole test.
High child safety score
For child occupant protection, the Sierra scored 44.73 out of 49 points. The dynamic score stood at 23.73 out of 24, while the child restraint system installation scored full marks. The overall score was slightly affected by the vehicle assessment component. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies recorded high scores in frontal and side-impact tests.
Safety features
The Sierra comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, rear parking sensors and all-wheel disc brakes as standard. Higher variants add a 360-degree camera, a blind-spot monitor, an auto-dimming mirror, and Level 2 driver-assistance systems.
The takeaway
With a near-perfect adult protection score and a strong showing in child safety, the Sierra joins the growing list of Tata models with top safety ratings. For buyers in this segment, safety remains a key differentiator, and the Sierra now has the numbers to back it up.
