Volkswagen Taigun facelift launched at Rs 10.99 lakh with 8-speed AT

Volkswagen has launched the updated Taigun in India, priced from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 19.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The update brings up to 40 changes, with a focus on features, design and a new automatic gearbox.

The biggest change is under the hood. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine now gets a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the older unit. The manual continues, while the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol carries on with the 7-speed DSG. Outputs remain similar at around 113bhp and 178Nm for the 1.0-litre and 148bhp and 250Nm for the 1.5-litre TSI.

On the outside, the Taigun gets a more contemporary look. There is a redesigned grille with an integrated light bar, along with illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear. The LED tail-lamps now feature sequential indicators, and new alloy wheel designs are available across variants. Higher trims also get welcome and goodbye lighting animations.

Inside, the updates are more noticeable. The Taigun now gets a larger 10.25-inch digital cockpit and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There is also a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered seats and a cleaner dashboard layout with improved materials.

Volkswagen has also added connected tech, including voice commands and multiple integrated apps, as well as wireless smartphone connectivity and charging.

Safety remains a strong point. The Taigun retains its 5-star crash safety rating and now comes with six airbags as standard, along with features such as electronic stability control, multi-collision braking, and front and rear parking sensors.

A notable addition is the new 75 per cent assured buyback programme. It promises a residual value of up to 75 per cent after three years or 30,000 km, aimed at improving ownership confidence and resale value.

This update does not change the fundamentals of the Taigun. It still focuses on driving dynamics and safety. What it does is add the features and conveniences that buyers now expect, especially in the mid- and higher-variant models.
