India's two-wheeler market continued its strong momentum in May 2026, and unlike the passenger vehicle space where one manufacturer dominates the conversation, the battle here remains fiercely competitive. Scooters continue to boom, premium motorcycles are finding more buyers than ever before, and electric two-wheelers are steadily carving out a larger share of the market.
TVS Motor Company and Suzuki recorded its highest-ever monthly sales, while Honda continued its strong run being the market leader, Bajaj benefited from robust export demand, and Royal Enfield comfortably crossed the one-lakh sales mark once again.
TVS Records Its Best-Ever Month
If there was one clear winner in May 2026, it was TVS Motor Company.
The manufacturer posted its highest-ever monthly sales volume, recording 5,66,585 units, representing a healthy 31 per cent year-on-year growth. Total two-wheeler sales stood at 5,43,111 units, while domestic two-wheeler sales reached 3,84,565 units.
What's impressive is that growth came from virtually every corner of its portfolio. Motorcycle sales rose by 30 per cent to 2,73,802 units, scooter sales increased by 32 per cent to 2,20,740 units, while EV sales surged by 56 per cent to 43,632 units.
The Jupiter continues to be one of the country's most popular family scooters, the Raider remains a strong performer in the commuter motorcycle segment, while the Apache range continues to attract enthusiasts. The iQube, meanwhile, is helping TVS establish itself as one of India's strongest EV players.
Honda Continues Its Strong Momentum: Continues To Be The Domestic Market Leader
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India reported total sales of 5,18,777 units in May 2026, comprising 4,59,611 domestic sales and 59,166 exports. That's a healthy 12 per cent increase over the same month last year.
As always, the Activa remains the backbone of Honda's success story. The Shine continues to dominate the commuter motorcycle segment, while products like the Unicorn and Dio help the brand maintain strong volumes across multiple categories.
Honda's strength lies in its consistency. Whether it's scooters or motorcycles, urban markets or rural ones, the company continues to deliver impressive numbers month after month.
Bajaj's Export Machine Keeps Delivering
Bajaj Auto reported total two-wheeler sales of 3,93,204 units in May 2026, representing an 18 per cent year-on-year growth.
Domestic two-wheeler sales stood at 2,09,528 units, while exports climbed to 1,83,676 units, underlining the company's continued strength in international markets.
The Pulsar family remains Bajaj's biggest volume contributor, while products such as the Dominar and Freedom CNG motorcycle continue to add depth to the range. KTM's expanding portfolio also contributes significantly to Bajaj's overall performance.
While competition remains intense in the domestic market, Bajaj's export business continues to be one of its biggest strengths.
Royal Enfield Crosses The One-Lakh Mark Again
Royal Enfield continued its strong run in May 2026, posting total sales of 1,03,231 motorcycles, compared to 89,428 units in May 2025. That translates to a healthy 15 per cent year-on-year growth.
The Hunter 350 and Classic 350 continue to be the brand's biggest volume drivers, while the Meteor 350, Himalayan and expanding 650cc line-up have helped Royal Enfield strengthen its position in the premium motorcycle space. More recently, models like the Classic 650 have further broadened the appeal of the brand's twin-cylinder range.
What's particularly impressive is that Royal Enfield has become one of the few premium motorcycle manufacturers consistently crossing the one-lakh monthly sales mark. At a time when most brands are chasing commuter volumes, Royal Enfield continues to prove there's a sizeable appetite for larger-capacity, lifestyle-oriented motorcycles in India.
Suzuki Registers Its Best-Ever Monthly Sales
Suzuki Motorcycle India continued its steady growth story in May 2026, recording its highest-ever monthly sales since commencing operations in the country.
The company registered total sales of 1,32,244 units, representing a 3 per cent year-on-year growth over the 1,28,897 units sold in May 2025.
Domestic dispatches stood at 1,10,028 units, up 2 per cent from the 1,07,780 units sold during the same month last year. More importantly, this marks the highest-ever monthly domestic sales figure achieved by Suzuki Motorcycle India.
Exports also continued their upward trajectory, with 22,216 units shipped overseas compared to 21,117 units in May 2025, translating to a 5 per cent growth.
The Access 125 remains the backbone of Suzuki's sales performance and continues to be one of the country's most popular family scooters. Meanwhile, the Burgman Street, Avenis and Gixxer range continue to help the brand strengthen its presence across multiple segments.
While Suzuki may not generate the same headlines as some of its larger rivals, crossing the 1.3 lakh sales mark and achieving its highest-ever monthly sales is a significant milestone and highlights the company's steady growth in the Indian market.
Scooters Continue To Drive Growth
One of the biggest trends defining India's two-wheeler market remains the continued rise of scooters.
Products like the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Access, Hero Destini and TVS Ntorq continue to attract strong demand, particularly in urban markets. Convenience, practicality and ease of use remain the key reasons behind the segment's popularity.
As a result, manufacturers are investing heavily in scooters, introducing new variants, features and technologies to keep pace with growing demand.
EV Adoption Continues To Accelerate
Electric two-wheelers are steadily becoming an increasingly important part of the market.
TVS recorded its highest-ever EV sales month with more than 43,000 iQubes sold, while brands like Ather, Bajaj, Hero Vida and Ola Electric continue to expand their presence across the country.
Charging infrastructure remains a challenge in some regions, but consumer acceptance of electric scooters is clearly growing, especially in urban centres where running costs and convenience play a major role in purchase decisions.
The Bigger Picture
May 2026 reinforced many of the trends that have been shaping India's two-wheeler industry over the past year. Scooters continue to gain popularity, premium motorcycles are enjoying sustained growth, and EV adoption is steadily increasing.
TVS was undoubtedly the star performer of the month, recording its highest-ever sales volume and posting strong growth across motorcycles, scooters and EVs. Honda continued to deliver impressive numbers, Bajaj benefited from robust export demand, Royal Enfield comfortably crossed the one-lakh sales mark once again, while Suzuki celebrated its highest-ever monthly sales performance in India.
Unlike the passenger vehicle market where one manufacturer has stretched away from the competition, the two-wheeler space remains a far more closely fought contest. And if May's numbers are anything to go by, the fight for market share is only going to get more intense through the rest of FY27.
