2024 BMW X5 M And X6 M | Competition Editions Unveiled

BMW has unveiled the line's performance apex just a few weeks after the facelifted X5 and X6 were on sale. With sharper aesthetics, the newest curved digital cockpit, and a reworked V8 engine with the inclusion of a 48V mild-hybrid system, the 2024 X5 M and X6 M are now only available in Competition version.

Electrified Performance

The revised Competition versions have the same 617 horsepower (460 kW/ 625 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque as their forerunners, according to the numbers. Nevertheless, the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 has undergone various internal changes (reinforced crankshaft, upgraded turbochargers, cross-bank exhaust manifold, new intake duct, etc.) and has been minimally electrified with a 48V system, altering its nomenclature from S63 to S68. The eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox, which benefits from shorter gearing and quicker shifts, has integrated the electric motor from the 48V mild hybrid system.

In comparison to the previous model, the updated and electrified powertrain offers "sharper responsiveness and better economy," according to BMW. The peak speed is capped at 155 mph (250 km/h) or 177 mph (285 km/h) with the optional M Driver's Package, thus the performance stats remain the same. The 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint is achieved in 3.7 seconds. It's important to note that the electrified XM features a plug-in hybrid powertrain, making these the first BMW M vehicles to include mild hybrid technology.

The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the Active M Differential at the rear, the M Sport exhaust with electronically controlled flaps, M Compound Brakes, and the Adaptive M Suspension Professional with a refined setup are all included as standard performance features that will help you get the most performance out of the V8.

Sharper exterior and aggressive Styling

The M-badged SUVs employ the X-shaped LED tail light graphics and leaner LED headlights as with the lesser variations in terms of design, but pair them with version-specific bodykits and bigger diameter alloy wheels (21 inches in front and 22 inches in back). Black paint is used for the reworked kidney grille, the trim that connects it to the lower bumper intake, the front splitter, the quad exhaust pipes, the diffuser, and the badges. In addition, 50 exclusive hues from BMW Individual have been added to the color pallet, along with the new metallic colors of Brooklyn Grey, Isle of Man Green, and Frozen Pure Gray.

The BMW Curved Display, which progressively makes its way into the whole BMW lineup, is one of the most significant enhancements. The curved panel has a 14.9-inch infotainment screen running the BMW Operating System 8 and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The Head-Up Display is also incorporated, and the displays have M-specific visuals. Via the M Setup menu, which is accessed by pressing a single button shortcut on the center console, the driver may choose their preferred settings.

The ambient light bar on the dashboard with a crystalline surface texture and the carbon gearshift paddles are two of the new elements included by the facelift. Both variants have a panoramic moonroof, a M leather steering wheel, heated seats, a Harman Kardon audio system, and carbon fiber inside trim (with Fineline Black wood or Silver Ash Root Open Pore wood as options). The more expensive Bowers & Wilkins audio system, the soft-close doors, the Panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof, as well as the heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, are among the highlights of the options list.

Reverse Assistant and Maneuver Assistant, two ADAS features that can recall and remotely replicate certain steering maneuvers over a distance of up to 200 m, have been added to the basic Parking Assistance Professional.

During the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in March, the 2024 BMW X5 M and X6 M will make their public debuts, and in April, manufacturing will begin at the Spartanburg factory. Prices for the X5 M and X6 M begin at $122,300 and $127,200, respectively, before shipping and handling charges of $995. For good measure, those numbers reflect a hike of $13,700 and $9,600, respectively, above the starting prices of the 2019 MY models of the X5 M and X6 M.
