BMW R12 and R12 nineT Launched in India Starting at 19.90 Lakh

BMW has launched the 2024 R12 bike at Rs 19.90 Lakh and the R12 nineT at Rs 20.90 Lakh (ex-showroom). The R12 is a cruiser, and the nineT is a roadster, but they both run on the same boxer engine with separate tunings. They will enter India as a completely built unit (CBU), with the first deliveries expected in September 2024.

Design

The R12 is inspired by the flagship R18, both being cruisers. It gets a raked front with a 19-inch wheel below it, while the rear wheel is 14 inches. The nineT takes a more boxy approach with its retro styling and muscular aluminium tank. It gets 17-inch spoke wheels on both ends, with the front wheel suspended by a USD fork of 45 mm. There are single-sided, dual-end exhaust tips on both bikes with different finishes; the R12 has a brushed one while the one on nineT is chrome finished.

Powertrain

The two motorbikes are powered by a 1,170 cc, two-cylinder boxer engine that churns out 108 bhp and 115 Nm of torque in the R12 nineT and 94 bhp and 110 Nm in the R12. Coupled with this engine is a 6-speed transmission with an RWD drivetrain in both models.

Modes and Structure

They differ in the modes, with the nineT getting Rain, Road, and Dynamic and the R12 opting for Roll and Rock ride modes. The tubular bridge is also common in the two bikes, which, according to BMW, reduces the requirement of an additional fastening, hence reducing weight. The rear frame is attached to the mainframe through bolts. There are 310mm discs on the front and a single 265mm rotor for the bike's brakes.

Features

On the feature front, the bikes have ABS Pro with dynamic traction control, TPMS and engine drag torque, Headlight Pro, and Keyless Ride as standard. You can also get a comfort package with them that adds features like Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, cruise control, and Hill Start Control Pro. They come with a 3-year/unlimited-kilometer warranty that can be extended according to your needs.

The R12 and R12 nineT will lock horns with the Triumph Speed Twin and the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster in India.
