Ford unveiled the brand-new Mustang GT3, which will begin competing in the FIA GT3 division in 2024. The racer is based on the Mustang Dark Horse and has a new Ford Performance branding, an aerodynamic package that is sufficiently aggressive, a Coyote-based V8 power plant, and a redesigned suspension system.
On the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford presented its brand-new racecar in honor of the legendary racing competition's 100th anniversary. Unique carbon fiber body panels and a new aerodynamic package that complies with rules are hallmarks of the Mustang GT3. It appears set to obliterate lap times and the opposition thanks to its revised face, vented wide fenders, more intakes, side-mounted exhaust pipes, and bigger rear wing.
The demonstration car's vibrant livery was designed by famous motorsports artist Troy Lee and features the new, more streamlined Ford Performance emblem that will be used on all next racing cars. According to Ford, the emblem is now simpler to integrate into vehicle liveries and advertising materials.
Ford's longtime WRC partner M-Sport and Multimatic, a key component of the Ford GT racing programme, worked together to build the Mustang GT3. A customized 5.4-liter Coyote-based V8 engine under the hood makes an undetermined amount of power. The engine, which has a great sound in the official testing clip, is coupled to a transaxle gearbox that is positioned in the back. Additionally, the race car has custom short-long arm suspension.
Proton Competition, a company with headquarters in Ehingen, Germany, is the first customer team to purchase the new Ford Mustang GT3. The team plans to compete in all events during the 2024 World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ford CEO Jim Farley expressed his excitement for the company's impending return to Le Mans, noting that they "are bound together by history" and that the teams no longer compete against one another. Ford is up against everyone.
Beginning at the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona, Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports will additionally enter two factory-backed Mustang GT3 cars in the IMSA GTD Pro class.
