MV Agusta has unveiled its latest supersport offering overseas, the new F3R, which gets a revised engine, an updated electronics package, and a quickshifter as standard. Does it have what it takes to take on its 600cc four-cylinder Japanese counterparts?
Engine and gearbox
The MV Agusta F3R gets a revised Euro 5+ compatible 798cc 3-cylinder engine producing 145bhp at 13,000rpm and 88Nm of torque at 10,100rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox, which now gets a bi-directional quickshifter as standard. The engine features MV’s iconic counter-rotating crankshaft, which counteracts the gyroscopic effect of the front wheel, significantly enhancing agility, a feature that is generally reserved for MotoGP bikes. MV claims the F3 R can reach a top speed of 240kmph and can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just 3 seconds.
Chassis and suspension
The MV Agusta F3R now gets an updated 43mm Marzocchi adjustable USD fork up front and a Sachs adjustable rear monoshock. The braking duties are handled by twin 320mm discs up front with updated Brembo Stylema four piston callipers, with a 240mm disc at the rear with two piston floating calipers. The bike gets a steel tubular trellis frame along with an aluminium single-sided swing arm, which helps showcase MV’s iconic 3 pipe exhaust system.
Features and tech
MV claims the F3 R is the most well-equipped in its class. It gets a new 5.5-inch colour TFT screen with smartphone connectivity and an anti-theft system with geolocation. There are four riding modes on offer, namely rain, road, sport and custom. Other features include eight levels of traction control, cruise control, wheelie control, launch control, cornering ABS with sport and race modes, and a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).
Prices and rivals
The MV Agusta F3 R has been launched in Italy at a price of €16,000, which is ₹17.5 lakh in India. The pricing makes it significantly more expensive than its 600cc counterparts, but it is also more powerful and better equipped. Its main rivals are the Kawasaki ZX6R, Honda CBR 600RR and the Ducati Panigale V2.
