Honda 0 Alpha concept, set to be Honda’s first EV offering in India
Overview
Honda has unveiled its third addition to the 0 Series concept cars at the Japan Mobility Show, namely the 0 Alpha, which will be Honda’s first electric offering in the Indian market.
Exterior and Platform
The Honda 0 Alpha concept will be an electric sub-4-metre compact SUV. Honda spokesperson has said that it will blend both urban and natural environments. Proposed with a high ground clearance, keeping in mind the Indian road conditions. The concept features 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, flared wheel arches finished in gloss black, and a never-before-seen rear cut-off design language, which gives the concept SUV a stance. Flush door handles, illuminated Honda logos, a black panel housing connected LED DRLs at the front with integrated turn signals and headlamps paired with U-shaped tail lamps at the rear give the SUV a futuristic look. The overall design language is a radical departure from Honda’s usual design language in the country. Country The 0 Alpha will probably get a completely new platform with a flat floor to maximise space and comfort.
Powertrain
Honda hasn’t revealed any technical specs for the concept or the production car yet. Still, we estimate it to be around 500 km on a single charge, with two battery pack options, and all variants limited to a front-wheel-drive layout.
Conclusion
Honda has said it plans to launch the 0 Alpha concept in India by 2027. It will be manufactured locally at their Narsapura facility in Karnataka, with an additional investment of Rs 600 crore. This will be further exported to other Asian countries, starting with their home base in Japan.
