Tesla Model Y L launched in India at Rs 61.99 lakh

Tesla has launched the Model Y L in India at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), introducing a new six-seater configuration aimed at family buyers. Bookings are now open, with deliveries set to begin from June 2026.

This is the first time Tesla has offered a three-row version of the Model Y in India, and it clearly shifts focus from being just a premium EV to a more practical family SUV.

The headline numbers are strong. The Model Y L gets a claimed WLTP range of up to 681km, along with a 0 to 100 kmph time of 5.0 seconds. Power figures are not disclosed, but performance is in line with Tesla’s dual-motor all-wheel drive setup.

The key change is inside. The Model Y L adopts a 6-seat layout with captain seats in the second row. These get ventilation, heating, powered armrests and one-touch folding. The third row also gets powered recline and dedicated climate vents, making it more usable than typical occasional seating.

Practicality is a highlight. With all seats folded, cargo capacity reaches 2539 litres, which is substantial for this segment. Tesla has also updated the ride and refinement. The Model Y L gets adaptive suspension with electronic damping, along with acoustic glass to improve cabin insulation. The aim is to deliver a more comfortable experience over long distances.

Features remain typical of Tesla. A large central touchscreen controls most functions, while connectivity features include live traffic visualisation, satellite maps and in-car streaming services. The audio system uses 18 speakers and a subwoofer.

Charging infrastructure is still growing. Tesla currently operates five Supercharger stations in India and plans to expand this network across major cities and highways. Home charging solutions are also part of the ownership experience.

The line-up also includes other variants. The standard rear-wheel-drive version offers up to 500km range, while the long-range RWD extends that to 661km. The Model Y L is the more practical all-wheel-drive option at the top.

This launch broadens Tesla’s appeal in India. With the Model Y L, the focus shifts to space, usability and everyday practicality, which could matter more in this market.
