The Camry has always been the sensible executive sedan. It sips fuel politely, pampers its passengers, and does not shout for attention. Now, Toyota has decided to give it a little attitude. Enter the Camry Sprint Edition.
Shown last year but previously unavailable in showrooms, the Sprint Edition has finally arrived in India, priced at ₹48.50 lakh, the same as the standard Camry. It is not a new variant, but rather a style package, and an instead striking one.
A Dash Of Darkness
The Sprint Edition brings a complete blackout theme. The bonnet, roof, tailgate, and alloy wheels are finished in matte black. A discreet spoiler is located at the back, and the vehicle features a new front and rear body kit. None of this alters the engineering, but the effect is immediate. It looks sharper and slightly more menacing than the Camry you are used to seeing glide silently through traffic.
Buyers still have the usual five body colour choices, although the darker accents make the Sprint Edition stand out as the more fashionable sibling.
Cabin Tweaks
Inside, the changes are subtle but welcome. Ambient lighting has been added, allowing you to set the mood, and door warning lights are now functional when stepping out at night.
The rest of the cabin remains familiar, which is no bad thing. You still have a 12.3-inch driver display, JBL’s 9-speaker sound system, head-up display, triple-zone climate control, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and a generally comfortable environment that encourages long journeys.
On the safety side, the equipment list remains comprehensive. Nine airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a 360-degree camera, hill start assist, TPMS, and Toyota Safety Sense with Level-2 ADAS features are all standard.
No Sprint Under The Bonnet
Do not be misled by the “Sprint” name. The mechanical package remains unchanged. You still get the 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine working in harmony with strong hybrid technology and an e-CVT gearbox. The combined output is 230 bhp. Torque is split between the 221 Nm from the engine and an additional 208 Nm from the electric motor, all of which are sent to the front wheels.
Performance is not blistering but entirely adequate for a sedan of this size. More importantly, it remains efficient, refined, and quiet in typical Camry fashion.
Verdict
The Toyota Camry Sprint Edition is more about presence than power. For no extra cost over the standard car, you get a darker, sharper-looking Camry with a few added cabin features. Mechanically, it is unchanged, which means you still have that tried-and-tested hybrid system that balances performance with economy.
If you wanted your Camry to look just a bit more assertive without stretching the budget, the Sprint Edition is now the one to have.
