Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept

The Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept was introduced at an event in New York, and it previews a production model that we've seen testing on many times in recent months.

The GV80 Coupe Concept, which debuted at Genesis House New York, is a four-seater crossover inspired by last year's X Speedium Coupe Concept. As such, it combines design aspects from the current GV80 with those from the more dynamic X Speedium. "It is a statement of purpose for more emotive, performance-oriented cars and a glimpse of Genesis' future plans," the Korean carmaker adds.

The GV80 Coupe Concept's front fascia is distinguished from the present GV80 by smaller LED headlamps with revolutionary multi-lens array technology. Furthermore, the front end features more muscular air intakes with black shrouds, while the revamped roof line draws attention from the side. The concept is also rocking horizontal LED lights on the front quarter panels and sits significantly lower than the GV80 we’re familiar with.

It's difficult to dispute that the concept's design's pièce de résistance is the back end. It, like the X Speedium Concept, includes full-width LED lighting, a trunk-mounted lip spoiler, and a modest spoiler reaching out from the top. The vibrant orange hue named Magma is also a standout.

Genesis also made extensive improvements to the interior of the GV80 to create the Coupe Concept. There's a new three-spoke steering wheel, as well as surfaces in black Nappa and suede leather with orange piping and carbon fiber accents. The SUV has also evolved into a four-seater, with four bucket seats and painted carbon fiber backrests in the same orange as the exterior. Behind the second-row bucket seats, a huge strut bar has also been installed.

"From its foundation, the Genesis brand began developing luxury sedans, which grew into the G70, G80, and G90 models," said Genesis Group chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke during the concept's unveiling. "We have added more lifestyle-oriented vehicles to our range during the last seven years, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs." We are now pushing the boundaries with more emotive vehicles that enhance Genesis' performance and dynamic qualities. [The GV80 Coupe Concept] highlights the Genesis brand's duality by exhibiting the combative attitude that dwells inside the Athletic and Elegance limits of Genesis' design philosophy."

We'll most certainly get a closer look at the GV80 Concept at the New York Auto Show, which previews a production vehicle due out within the next year.
